As the managing partner of McDermid, Turnbull & Associates, Karen has over 16 years experience in Trade-mark Law and became a Registered Trade Mark Agent in 1998. She practices exclusively in the area of trade-marks including all aspects of registration, opposition, licensing, assignment. Karen services her client’s trade-mark needs in Canada and Internationally.

Karen places considerable focus on developing IP portfolio management strategies with her clients, including licensing, policing and protection of their trade-marks in order to maximize her client’s return from this important asset.

As a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), Karen is an active member of the Public Awareness Committee and serves on the IPIC/CIPO Bank of Speakers. She is also a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA-U.S.).

Karen is actively involved in her community and has served on the Board of Directors for the not for profit agency AMCAL Family Services since 2001 and is currently serving as President.
